What this days to hours converter does

This tool answers a simple but easy-to-fumble question: how many hours are in a given number of days? Type a number — whole or decimal — and it multiplies by 24 to return the total instantly, alongside the same span in total minutes and total seconds. There's no button to press; the result updates as you type.

It's built for the moments a plain multiplication is worth double-checking: converting a 3.5-day trip into hours, turning a project estimate of "10 days" into an hours figure for a quote, or checking a decimal value like 0.25 days without doing the arithmetic by hand. For the wider set of second/minute/hour/day/week conversions, the time unit converter covers every pairing in one place.

How to use it

One field, no configuration.

  1. Enter the number of days.Type a whole number like 5, or a decimal like 3.25.
  2. Read the hours. The big number updates instantly as days × 24.
  3. Check minutes or seconds if you need them. Both are shown below the main result, calculated from the same input.
  4. Copy, print, or download the result.Use it directly, or save it as a CSV row for your records.

How the conversion works

A day is fixed at exactly 24 hours, so converting days to hours is a single multiplication: hours = days × 24. Minutes and seconds follow the same pattern, using 1,440 minutes and 86,400 seconds per day.

Worked example · 4.5 days
4.5 days × 24 = 108 hours
4.5 days × 1,440 = 6,480 minutes
4.5 days × 86,400 = 388,800 seconds

Why decimals matter

Because a day is a fixed 24-hour unit, decimal days convert cleanly — 0.5 days is exactly 12 hours, and 0.25 days is exactly 6 hours. This is different from converting a number of months to hours, where the answer depends on which month you mean. If you need the reverse conversion, the hours to days converter divides by 24 instead.

Working with full weeks instead of days? The weeks to days converter handles that pairing directly.

Who uses it, and for what

  • Project planners & freelancers turning a day-based estimate into an hours figure for a quote or a time-tracking tool.
  • Students & researchers converting a study or experiment duration given in days into hours for a report.
  • Travellers checking how many hours a multi-day trip, layover, or visa window actually covers.
  • Anyone doing unit conversion for a recipe, a fitness plan, or a school assignment that mixes days and hours.

If you need the hours between two specific calendar dates rather than a plain day count, the time duration calculator is the better tool — it accounts for actual calendar dates rather than a fixed 24-hour day.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert days to hours?

Multiply the number of days by 24, since a day always has 24 hours. For example, 5 days × 24 = 120 hours.

How many hours are in one day?

Exactly 24 hours, by definition — the standard length of a day used in every calendar and timekeeping system.

How many hours are in a week?

A week is 7 days, so 7 × 24 = 168 hours.

Can I convert a decimal or fractional number of days?

Yes. Enter any value with a decimal point, such as 2.5 days, and the converter returns 60 hours (2.5 × 24).

How many hours are in a month?

It depends on the month's length. A 30-day month is 720 hours, a 31-day month is 744 hours, and February is 672 hours (696 in a leap year). Because the answer varies, this converter uses a fixed 24-hour day rather than assuming a specific month length.

Is this the same as calculating the hours between two dates?

Not quite. This tool converts a plain quantity of days into hours. If you need the exact hours between two calendar dates or timestamps, the time duration calculator accounts for calendar specifics like different month lengths.

Is the converter free and private?

Yes. It is free with no sign-up, and the calculation runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded or stored.

Accuracy & sources

Results come from a single, fixed conversion factor: 1 day = 24 hours. Minutes and seconds are derived the same way, using 1,440 minutes and 86,400 seconds per day. There is no rounding beyond standard floating-point display, and every worked example on this page has been independently verified by hand.
